CORBON to adopt building information modeling

To boost professional standards, the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) has concluded plans to adopt Building Information Modeling (BIM) system in the construction industry.

The council also intends to set a high standard for professional services in the built environment that would guarantee better and faster project delivery, reduce wastages and costs in the industry.

The Council Chairman, Prof. Kabir Bala who stated this at induction of 258 new practitioners in Abuja, urged the members to employ the new instruments and legitimise the technology practice in all its ramifications in the country.

We enjoin inductees not to sit back and rely on your current ability but to work tirelessly in acquiring new knowledge and skills that the fourth industrial revolution will demand,” he said.

According to him, “our primary responsibility is to register and licensing personnel that can practice and all registered builders are required to adhere to the minimum building production management standards.

“The council would soon flag-off the BIM system on project quality management, health and safety, construction programming, ethical practice, building maintenance, and construction technology.”

The chairman noted that the move will address the challenge of quackery in the construction sector and improve the quality of building works and buildings in Nigeria.

On his part, the Registrar of CORBON, Dr. Peter Kuroshi, enjoined the inductees to brace up for challenges in the course of practice, but the future holds rewards for patience and diligence work, urging them to be role models for other builders.
